SyncFolder — Desktop User Guide
Selecting a Storage Location
Every task requires a source and a destination location (or Location A and B for 2-way sync). You configure these on the task edit page by selecting a location type from the dropdown and then pointing SyncFolder to the exact folder to use.
Available Location Types
The available location types depend on whether the task is a 2-way sync or another sync type, and on whether you are configuring the source or the destination.
| Location type | Source | Destination | 2-way (A & B) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Internal, external or network drive | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Phone, tablet or other mobile device | ✓ | ✓ | — |
| OneDrive | — | ✓ | — |
| FTP/FTPS server | ✓ | ✓ | — |
| SFTP server – SSH File Transfer Protocol | ✓ | ✓ | — |
| SyncFolder Mobile Sync | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Location Type Descriptions
Covers all storage that Windows exposes through the standard file system: built-in drives, USB drives and SD cards, mapped network shares (NAS), and WebDAV servers. After selecting this type, a Windows Folder Picker opens to let you choose the root folder.
Connects to Android phones, tablets, digital cameras, and other devices that communicate over the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). The device must be connected via USB and unlocked with file transfer enabled.
Connects directly to a OneDrive account using the Microsoft Graph API. Available as a destination only. No local OneDrive client installation is required.
Connects to a standard FTP server or an FTP server with TLS/SSL encryption (FTPS). Requires the server address, port, and account credentials.
Connects to an SFTP server over an SSH-encrypted connection. Supports both password and private key authentication.
Connects to a device running the SyncFolder mobile app over a local Wi-Fi network. Available for both source and destination, and is the only mobile option supported in 2-way sync tasks.
