SYNCFOLDER HELP TOPIC
Speed preferences (Parallelism Setting)
The speed/parallelism setting controls how many file operations the app executes simultaneously.
You can choose between Low, Standard, or High load levels, depending on your device and performance preferences.
The app automatically adjusts the number of concurrent threads based on the selected load level, the type of storage device (internal drive, external USB drive, network/NAS, OneDrive, SSH/FTP, etc.), and the file size (smaller or larger than 1 MB).
- Low load → minimal system impact, slower operation, best for limited or external connections.
- Standard load → balanced performance for typical devices.
- High load → maximum speed with higher CPU and I/O usage, best for fast internal drives or LAN connections.
Thread Allocation by Device and Load Level
The next table shows how many threads SyncFolder uses in the different levels when calculating file content hashes (if enabled in a task) and copying files; entry "4 | 2" means: 4 threads for files that are smaller than 1 MB and 2 threads for larger files.
When copying a file between different type of devices the lowest number of threads from both devices will be assigned.
Example: when copying from an internal drive to a USB drive and the level is set to Standard the number of threads is: 2 and 1.
| Storage type | Low | Standard | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Internal drive | 2 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 8 | 4 |
| USB drive | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
| NAS drive | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
| Mobile device | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Onedrive | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
| FTP(S) server | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
